ABOUT

Acquired during COVID, what began as a blank canvas has become an extraordinary showcase of life and imagination. In just a few short years, gravel has given way to an enticing and immersive plant-filled paradise. With over 30 years of horticultural expertise, designer Michael Mansvelt has transformed the bare space into a garden of abundance — proof of what’s possible with vision, patience, and a love for plants.

If you google ‘Garden centre near me’, before you visit us, you will get a most pleasant surprise. Jungle Nurseries is one of those hidden gems, discovered by chance or sought out by plant lovers, landscapers, and design enthusiasts eager to see how living design takes shape.

It’s a place to wander among the inspiration behind Michael’s acclaimed projects seen in homes, businesses, and public spaces across Aotearoa.

Come and visit us. Wander, linger, and let the greenery spark ideas for your own garden story.

MEET

Michael Mansvelt, author of Everyday Opulence, writer of op-eds, and a landscape designer for three decades, he blends plantsmanship with inspired design. His Taranaki property, once an empty canvas with uninhabited greenhouses, is now a thriving green sanctuary. Jungle reflects his belief in the power of nature and thoughtful planting.

Mansvelt’s planting has become iconic within his hometown of New Plymouth where once you know how he works, you see his projects everywhere from residential gardens, generously lush planters distinguishing local businesses and hypnotic installations in public spaces. The nursery is the source of much of the treasures that – via Mansvelt’s eponymous design studio – find their way out into gardens both locally and throughout Aotearoa.
